About this list

This list gathers every place in the region where a game can be had, sorted by kind. The clubs come first, by far the largest group: their evenings take place in Bürgerhäuser, parish halls, school rooms, inns and club houses from Mosbach in the Odenwald to Hagenbach near the French border. The opens follow, since anyone with a registration may enter them, from the Haßlocher Schachtage to the Christmas open in Frankenthal.

Then come the places without a club behind them. In Mannheim the TeeCafe Tilia in Lindenhofstraße holds chess evenings on four Thursdays up to December 2026, listed in the city’s event calendar, and the SeniorenTreff Gartenstadt has a chess group on Friday afternoons. The multi-generation house in Frankenthal invites learners and improvers on Monday afternoons, and the integration centre in Bensheim runs a free Thursday chess meeting for all ages. School groups and academy courses, which are closed to outsiders, have a section of their own.
